On 9th May 2013, we will be participating in the EIS & Angel Investing - Advisor Showcase, which is being held for financial advisers and their HNW clients. Since rule changes were introduced a year ago, an increasing number of UK businesses have been raising money under the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) – so what better time for financial advisers and their clients to get to grips with it and all it has to offer?

We recently appeared in a high profile Sunday Times article by Ali Hussain (03.03.2013), which focussed on cutting tax through creative use of simple reliefs, such as the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS). The article highlighted benefits of EIS that are often overlooked - some investors are still not aware that if you invest a gain to defer the payment of a 28% CGT bill you can also claim 30% income tax relief on the gain invested.

We have just completed a £3 million part EIS-qualifying investment in the management buyout of the Airedale Group of companies. Established in 1986, the Airedale Group, which is based near Bradford, West Yorkshire, designs, builds, installs and services large commercial kitchens for independent and leading national hospitality customers across many sectors.

Rockpool is currently raising £1.7m of development capital for Chicago Rib Shack and is delighted to announce that two leisure sector entrepreneurs, Julian Coppock and Stephen Thomas, will both be joining the board.

Our chairman, Nicola Horlick, appeared on yesterday's BBC Daily Politics show, talking about a range of topics – banking industry culture, powerful women in business, the Leveson Inquiry and more. We are very pleased to announce our new strategic alliance with Directorbank, the leading executive search firm which specialises in the private equity sector. We will be working closely with Directorbank to facilitate investment by private investors in UK small and medium sized enterprises, and the newly-formed alliance will also offer Rockpool members potential appointments as executive, non-executive and interim directorships in the private equity market.

We recently appeared in the Financial Adviser newspaper – news editor, Simoney Girard, spoke to Rockpool about the huge demand for EIS-qualifying investments, with twice as many products launched this tax year than last.

On Tuesday 20th November, 25 of our Rockpool Network members attended a lunch at Quaglinos, an exciting restaurant hidden within historic and stylish Mayfair. Our special guest was Archie Norman, currently Chairman of ITV, and one of Britain’s most prominent businessmen.

Our research reveals that the amount of money invested in VCTs fell for the first time since the start of the credit crisis as investors switch to Enterprise Investment Schemes.
